Web Site Construction

Departments, divisions, and academic schools that are not currently represented on the main university website have the opportunity to create and maintain a university hosted website.This page is dedicated to individuals who are interested in initiating this process with the assistance and support of ATW.

Requirements for Website Construction

  • Developer
    • The website developer is the individual within a department or academic area who will be responsible for the routine maintenance and upkeep of the website. This individual should be a vested member of the Wesleyan Community who will be able to oversee the relatively long term care of the website.
  • Training
    • The designated web developer will need to attend the Macromedia Dreamweaver Level 1 course that is offered in the Faculty Resource Center prior to starting the development process. The course schedule is posted in the Faculty Resource Center portion of this website.
  • Software
    • The supported web development software for the construction of university hosted web sites is Macromedia Dreamweaver 4 or Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. Access to this program is available in the FRC or arrangements can be made to purchase a licence for the software through ICT.
Initiating the Website Construction Process

Upon fulfilling the requirements listed above the designated website developer will need to schedule an appointment with ATW. This meeting will be the first of three meetings that will see the web site construction process to completion. The following is an outline of the web development process.

  • Meeting 1 ( 1 - 2hrs )
    • Discuss desired functionality and expectations of the web site
    • Develop a site map
    • Review existing web sites to assist in the benchmarking process
    • Begin the process of gathering information for meeting three (home work)
  • Meeting 2 ( 2 - 3 hrs )
    • Create graphics and visual components for the website
    • Construct the web site templates
  • Meeting 3 ( 2 - 3 hrs )
    • Organize website content and transfer content to the website templates
    • Check the site for accuracy and overall performance
    • Perform a site assessment to ensure that initial goals were met
