The university guidelines on academic integrity will be enforced for written work in all formats. Obviously wholesale reproduction of somebody else's work and presenting it as your own is unacceptable; however, minor rearrangements of somebody else's text also counts as plagiarism and you will be penalized for both practices. Work that is heavily plagiarized will not be accepted for credit.

When taking notes, identify phrases consisting of 5 or more consecutive words from the original source by using quotation marks. This will help you avoid plagiarism as you prepare reports and web pages. In written work, phrases consisting of 5 or more consecutive words from the original souce must be put in quotations and the source cited.

Most of your notes from various sources should simply be restated in your own words -- this will promote your understanding of the material (copied material simply goes from page to page without ever making the acquaintance of your higher brain centers). The sources of ALL information used in the preparation of written work must be identified and acknowledged.
