Coach
McAfee is first and foremost a teacher of the game. His
articles on the science of the sport can be found in
magazines and on websites Worldwide. While he has produced
many top athletes, he prefers to work with the developing
player. He simply loves to teach and this can be seen in the
sheer numbers of students he has worked with over the years.
He has help thousands of players improve their games, given
workshops and camps throughout the US, and taught more than
1,000 physical education teachers how to teach the sport in
their schools.
In
addition to his coaching work, Richard McAfee has also
contributed to the sport in the area of Tournament
Management. He has served on staff at many National Level
events and run more than 100 tournaments. In 1994, he was
hired as the Competition Manager/Director for the 1996
Atlanta Olympic Games Table Tennis Events. His
responsibilities included the complete planning, organizing,
and implementation of the Olympic and Paralympic Events. He
has also directed such events as: 1995 World Team Cup, 2000
North American Olympic Trials, 2003 US Pan American and
World Team Trials. In addition, he served as an ITTF
Pro-Tour Competition Manager at the 2003 Brazilian Open and
is the ITTF Technical Delegate for the 2005 World Masters
Games.
Coach McAfee has recently
moved to Aurora, CO. and can be found teaching table tennis
at the Colorado School of Mines in Golden, CO.
